LINDSEY PRUGH

Graphic Designer & Illustrator

My name is Lindsay Prugh and I am a senior at Salisbury University set to graduate early in Fall of 2020 with Honors and a BFA in Graphic Design. I have worked in production design at Victory Awards and Promotions for 4 years, where I design awards, promotional products, and personalized gifts. I have a background in painting, drawing, design, and even glass blowing. My work varies in medium and style, creating a unique array of pieces in my portfolio.

My early work consisted of watercolor and colored pencil portraits of myself that depicted my thought process or the emotions I was feeling during a period of depression and anxiety. I learned how to communicate through art what I was unable to explain with words. While I gained technical skill from these early pieces, the most important skill I learned was self-evaluation. Picking apart my brain to understand the steps that led me to that state of mind was important back then, and come in handy now.

I have had an interest in the process of creating, dating back to high school where I created a body of work that was made up of my planning materials and early sketches for finished pieces. Today, I draw inspiration from design companies like Draplin Design Co., and illustration like Sha-an De-Anthes who post their design and illustration process on social media. Seeing as I have never been one for explaining my thoughts and ideas, the documentation and evaluation of these steps is important to understanding my work for myself and for audiences.

My current work is primarily in design. I use social media such as Behance to lay out the process of my designs from start to finish. I enjoy illustration a lot and try to implement it into spreads that explain my process. I believe you can make any part of the process into awork of art itself. To further broaden my portfolio and work in an area I am not comfortable in, I pushed myself to take on writing and illustrating a children's book for my Honors Thesis. The final piece, printed and published, is only part of the project, however. The final presentation includes all my steps taken this semester, pieced together in an artistic spread, poster, or video documentation as a piece of art itself.

For this exhibition, I wanted the viewer to take a step into my work space, so to see the process from beginning to end as if it were happening in front of you in a time-lapse. I hope the viewer can take a step into my space and feel as if they too were part of the design process. They could imagine themselves in a critique, evaluating early stages of the logo. Or they could imagine themselves approving merchandise for the company apparel. I have always enjoyed immersive spaces in art, and having the opportunity to create one of my own that highlights my favorite facet of the art world is very exciting.
